Most Viewed Blog Post Of 2013

I thought it would be fun to showcase another blog post on the one that got the most views last year. This blog post got almost 1100 views (which is a lot for me, it's usually around 200-300) and it seemed to be a big hit. It doesn't surprise me one bit because this wedding was fabulous and I've become really good friends with the bride and groom. This wedding was so much fun on so many levels. A bridal party who cooperated well, a gorgeous bride and groom, amazing family and friends who were so helpful to me and who made the day go smoothly not only for me but for the bride and groom as well. It was a day filled with so much love and it was one of the many weddings where I walked away feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. I just knew that this couple was 100% in love and it was an honor shooting their wedding. I love all my weddings, don't get me wrong, but it's kind of fitting that since this was one of my top favorite weddings last year that it had the most views!

So who's wedding was it???? It was Jason and Heather's and you can read their full blog post here. The pictures below are just a few of my favorites that I'm showing again. I can't believe it's already been 4 months since their wedding day. Time is flying by!!!

Hope you all are enjoying your Thursday. Just one more day till the weekend….

My Cheerleaders

Last spring I made the commitment to coach the SHS cheerleading squad. I had been asked numerous times if I was interested and I'm just not the person who can say NO that many times to something. It was a huge decision considering I run my own business and I work part-time at the local newspaper. I knew it was going to need major organization on my part to be able to do all 3 things well. What I didn't realize was what I was getting in return. These 10 girls have grown to be like my 10 daughters. We have gotten close over the last 8 months since I became their coach. There are days where I walk in and just know it's going to be a bad practice and then there are days where I walk in and I can just feel the energy and spirit.

My very first practice with them really wasn't even a practice at all. I sat them all down and we talked. We talked about their goals, what they want to achieve as a squad, stunts they wanted to try, etc. I knew we had a long road ahead of us but we've stuck it through and we're doing amazing things now.

We recently started this team building activity that we do at the end of every practice. We share something with the squad (there is a daily question) and it stays within the squad. It's really made a difference and I've seen the girl get closer. It's been amazing to watch and I'm so proud of them. We are now practicing hard to prepare for the Sparta Tournament where we'll be judged. Whether we win or lose, I'm so proud of the team they have become. I'm the lucky one to say I get to be THEIR coach. Coaching isn't about teaching. It's about learning too.

I haven't seen my girls in a whole week because of the crazy winter weather we've been having. I miss them terribly and I'm so excited to see them tonight. Stay tuned for more pics of my girls. Trust me, I have plenty!

ANOTHER Snow Day

It's the 4th snow day in a row for the local schools and everyone, including parents, are going stir crazy. My sister asked me last night if I'd be able to go get my nieces today and bring them into town. They live in the country and they were literally going crazy staring at the four walls of their living room. All three of them are looking forward to going back to school and you just don't hear kids say that! My cousin's little girl asked her mommy if she'd be going into the 3rd grade (she's in 2nd grade now) because she had been off school so long. I thought that was hilarious!

Since my goal is to blog every day and I don't really have much to write about today, I found this picture on Pinterest that I thought I would share with all of you. If you live in this area and you're snowed in and needed to purchase your eggs, milk and bread before the snow hit, you'll get a kick out of this.

Hopefully this snow will begin to melt soon and we'll all be able to get out of the house. Until then… I'll be drinking wine and catching up on my DVR while working on my new project.

All About The Bling!

This is definitely a post for the ladies out there. If you love jewelry raise your hand! I know I do and it's one of my favorite things to shoot at engagements and weddings. I use my Canon 100mm macro lens and I crank up my aperture (depending on the light I have) and I take a LOT of shots. I like to take a lot because it's hard to tell how sharp an image is on the camera screen. I like to get creative and use my surroundings as well as themes that may fit each couple. Sometimes it's the bouquet at the wedding, or if it's a fall session I'll use a leaf. There are so many ways to shoot a ring but the most important thing to remember is to keep it sharp. When I'm editing these images I crank up the sharpness just to make the ring pop a bit more.

So here you go ladies. Here are my favorite ring shots from last year.

2013 Year End Review | Engagements

I've never been engaged before, but I can only imagine what it's like to look down at your left hand and dream of the future with your soul mate. The minute you get engaged, your whole life changes. It's a moment that girls dream of since they're little girls. I'm sure guys would tell you that they don't dream about that moment but deep down I would think that guys do look forward to meeting that one girl who will be the love of their life, the mother of their children and the woman that he'll grow old with. I'm a hopeless romantic and I hope to one day find a man who has those feelings towards me. I hope one day that I'm that girl who is distracted simply because she's staring at her left hand. That time for me isn't now but it happened for the 26 couples that came to me in 2013. Since I am a hopeless romantic, shooting engagement sessions is fun. I love capturing 2 people in love. It's so pure and you can't fake it.

These are my favorites from the engagement sessions I had last year. These couples are so amazing. Some of them were already married and the others will be getting married this year. I feel so blessed to be apart of these couples' lives. Enjoy!
