Alex + Kaitlin | A Countryside Engagement

Right now I'm currently sitting on the couch blogging this session while trying not to scratch chigger bites on my ankles! It's that time of year where the tall weeds and grass are perfect for photo shoots and it's also hot, which mean wearing boots isn't ideal. Well, all the scratching is worth it and you'll see why when you scroll through these beautiful pictures of Alex and Kaitlin's engagement session.

I've known Kaitlin's family for a long time now. She grew up in the same small town as me and when she contacted me about shooting her wedding I was thrilled! I couldn't wait to start discussing engagement session ideas. Time sort of got the best of me and we hadn't really talked much until the week of the session. She and Alex said they wanted a more country feel to their photos so I asked her if she knew of any great places outside of town in the country or maybe knew anyone who had old barns and sheds, etc. and she knew just the place!

The location for the pictures is actually next to a her old home that she used to live in. There was this gorgeous lane where the trees made a canopy over the road, there was old wooden fencing next to a field with tall weeds and grass (where the chiggers ate me up) and then there was this amazing red barn with a huge American flag painted on the side of it. I was so excited at each location. The light was perfect and everything really came together. Alex was such a great groom-to-be. Most guys hate their photos being taken, but I really think deep down they enjoy it. The way I pose my couples is natural and relaxed and I told Alex all he had to do was love on Kaitlin and the session would go beautifully and he replied with, "OK I can do that!"

He certainly did and I'm so happy with how their photos turned out. Here are just a few of my favorites from my time with Alex and Kaitlin. Enjoy!

You two are adorable!

Each couple has their "pose." Well... this is Alex and Kaitlin's!

Kaitlin brought along her dog, Owen. He is such a cutie!

Eric + Samantha | A DuQuoin Fairground Engagement Session, DuQuoin, Illinois

Back in December, I received an email from Samantha asking to meet with me to discuss my wedding pricing and her big day. We decided to meet at her wedding venue (after her consult there) but we didn't realize they'd be closing at that time so we decided to head over to Barnes and Noble to the Starbucks. I LOVE me some coffee! Samantha brought along her mother and we spent about an hour discussing plans she had in mind for her wedding and what type of photography she was looking for. She values photography, which I love, and when I was driving home I received a text that she had decided to have me be her photographer! She said it didn't take her long to make the decision after meeting me and that made me feel good. I knew right from the start that we were a good fit, too.

So what comes after a booking? An engagement session of course! We decided to shoot at the DuQuoin Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Illinois. I shoot there a lot but it's always different with each couple. It has amazing light in the afternoon/evening and there are great places all around the grounds for different looks. There are sables for horses, a huge lake and there are these weird (but amazing) trees that I like to call bonsai trees but I'm sure that's not there real name. If you watched Saved By The Bell growing up you might know what I'm talking about LOL.

An engagement session takes around an hour or so depending on location and in that time I get to know my couples and find out how they met and how the proposal went. Eric and Samantha are such a fun loving couple and it was so much fun watching them make each other laugh. Their love is contagious and I'm so excited to show you my favorites from my time with them.

P.S. They are getting married at one of my favorite venues in June so stay tuned......

Love this!

They are repainting the stables and it was perfect timing for these pics.
