Du Quoin Fairgrounds Engagement Session

Years ago, I coached the Steeleville High School cheerleading squad. I was once a cheerleader and I very much looked forward to coaching and sharing my love for the sport. I only coached for two years (it was hard working and running a business on the side so I had to let it go) but in those two years I got to know some pretty amazing ladies. One of them being Kelsey. She was a junior my first year and was a flyer. She took cheerleading very seriously and her enthusiasm for the sport made me love it all over again. She’d come to me with ideas and she’d offer to help underclassmen learn the sidelines, etc. She would even pick up/drive home any of the younger girls who couldn’t drive yet. She just stepped up and I noticed. Laziness is a huge pet peeve of mine and this girl wasn’t lazy at all.

Since we live in the same small town, I see Kelsey from time to time. She and Travis have been in or they’ve been guests in numerous weddings the last couple of years and when Kelsey contacted me to tell me she was engaged and that she wanted me as her wedding photographer I immediately got excited. I was excited to get to know these two as a couple. I don’t know Travis as much but I do know that Kelsey is very happy and when I see one of my girls happy… it makes me happy.

I met Kelsey and Travis at the DuQuoin Fairgrounds for their engagement session. It’s probably one of my favorite locations for a photo shoot. It’s just beautiful and we had such a great day for pics. It was overcast, which I didn’t mind, and they brought along their two fur babies! Kelsey’s mom met up with us to help wrangle the pups so it was nice getting to see her as well. After lots of laughs, outfit changes and bribing the pups to look at the camera, the session ended and I couldn’t have been more happy with how their photos turned out.
