Almost every family photo shoot I schedule, I always get the same question, “What should we wear?” Well my answer is always this… DON’T GO MATCHY MATCHY! It’s perfectly fine if your whole family shows up wearing exactly the same thing but I like to mix it up.

How I can best explain this is by showing you photos of course. Below are 3 different ideas for family photos. Look how they all match in some way or form. The colors are all blended but everyone isn’t wearing the same color shirt and jeans or slacks. I love how this brings in textures and more colors, especially when hats and scarves are added. Adding accessories can change the look of a photo in so many ways.

I personally love the modern family look. It goes well with my favorite style of photography which is urban. Chuck Taylor shoes and grunge are just so hip and funky. If your family is modern and fun this would be the way to go. If you are more relaxed and like more of the country settings then I would suggest something like the first two examples. Either way, make sure you dress to fit your personality first and foremost. You don’t want to look back on your family photos years from now and think to yourself, “that just doesn’t look like us”.
