When a bride chooses purple to be her wedding color, you know I’m going to fall in love with it right away. That was definitely the case with Johnny and Brittany’s wedding. Plum and other shades of purple were everywhere, the smell of fresh flowers filled the church and basement, and the sun was trying to creep out of the clouds. It was the perfect day for a wedding… Johnny and Brittany’s wedding.
I booked them so long ago, I’m thinking the fall of 2012 so it’s been a while looking forward to this day. I can remember talking to Brittany and hearing her exciting through phone calls and emails. She was exactly the type of bride I love working with. She valued photography and wanted to make sure we had enough time for plenty of pictures. So that’s why they chose to see each other before the ceremony. I ended up with over 150 images of them on their wedding day and that doesn’t happen if you wait to see each other after the ceremony. I’m definitely all for a traditional wedding day but a “first look” is my favorite way of ensuring that each couple is going to have plenty of portraits on one of the biggest days of their lives.
This was also the biggest wedding that I’ve ever shot. There were 26 in the bridal party I think. Maybe 28 (can’t remember really, I wasn’t feeling that well and the day just short of flew by). But it was a huge bridal party and it was a little trickily trying to get everyone to cooperate. They were all great troopers and we got some amazing shots.
The night ended in Hecker, IL at the Community Center. It’s a huge venue but it was definitely needed for the 400+ guests invited. Purple lights lit up the walls, chandeliers were hung on the dance floor and there was even a band. That’s the 3rd band I’ve had in a row and I gotta tell you it’s been wonderful to see. Such a great atmosphere.
Johnny and Brittany, I wish you all the best in this next chapter in your lives. I truly enjoyed your wedding day, flu and all, and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I’m excited to share my favorites from your wedding day. Enjoy!
