Ryan + Savannah | St. Louis Botanical Gardens Engagement Session

June 21, 2018

Filed in: Engagements

I’m so excited to be writing this blog post. I’m sitting here in awe of how the last several years have brought me the best clients, some of which have become dear friends. It was five (maybe six) years ago, I was taking senior portraits for Savannah and her twin sister, Sierra. From this session on, I feel like the Buch family was just special. We hit it off right away and every since that session, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing both of Savannah’s sisters weddings. It’s now Savannah’s turn to walk down the isle and I couldn’t be happier her. I’ve met Ryan through these occasions and so we weren’t complete strangers on the day of the engagement session.

For Ryan and Savannah’s engagement session, we settled on the idea of doing the photos at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens. It’s perfect for spring photos and if you go at the right time, you can hopefully work around the crowds of people. Sometimes it’s hard shooting when it’s crazy busy in a public place. Luckily (and I mean this in terms of photography only) there wasn’t a whole lot of people that day… because it was like 100 DEGREES!!! Seriously, winter hopped right over spring’s back and landed us in summer. If you’ve never been to the gardens, I’ll just tell you that it’s a big place, lots of acres and we walked around everywhere to get the best shots. Naturally, my favorite spots are over by the Japanese Gardens, which is in the back corner and I felt so bad making them walk everywhere in the heat but Savannah kept saying that she was comfortable with whatever ideas I had and she didn’t mind the walk. Ryan just did whatever I told him to do without questioning anything. He kept asking if sweat showed up in photos and I told him not to worry. All he had to do was love on Savannah, hold her hand and maybe pick her up every once in a while and I’d take care of the rest.

I’ve said it before but I am truly blessed to have a job that I love and that I look forward to doing every week. This job has led me to meeting the best people and I’m very much looking forward to watching Savannah walk down an isle and marry Ryan. It’s going to be bittersweet for me in a way because Savannah is the last of the Buch sisters to get married. It’s a good thing I shoot other things than just weddings 😉

Here are a few of my favorites from our hot but beautiful days at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens.
