Maeystown, Illinois Engagement Session

How’s your quarantine going? Normally this time of year starts my photography season with spring sessions. High school seniors and engagements sessions fill my calendar this time of year and right now all of that is on hold. I’m a person who thrives on having a routine and schedule and too much free time can be a bad thing for me. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to get an engagement session in before this “stay at home” order went into effect.

I couldn’t wait to get behind the camera again after such a long winter. Taylor and Devin scheduled their engagement session months ago and the forecast looked like rain all week. We had made plans to reschedule if we needed to or we would try to work around the radar. The day came and it was raining cats and dogs! Seriously, so much fun. But there was a break in the rain and I contacted Taylor to see if her and Devin could be ready sooner. We made a rush to beat the rain and let me tell you… it was a great choice! If you know me, then you know I love an overcast sky. Add an overcast sky to the beautiful scenery of Maeystown, Illinois and you have the perfect setting for any portrait session. Taylor showed up in this gorgeous floral maxi dress and Devin wore a nice blue button-up shirt and dress pants. Those outfits and the old historic buildings on the main street through town was a match made in heaven! The colors were absolutely perfect. Of course I had a cute couple to work with so every photo I got was amazing! They way Taylor and Devin look at each other just gives me goosebumps! I could have taken photos of them for hours if the rain wouldn’t have stopped us!

It started sprinkling a little bit so Taylor and Devin did a wardrobe change. Outfit number two is usually the more casual outfit and I can always tell that my couples get relaxed and more comfortable at this point. They already know my core poses so the rest of the session is a breeze. I knew Devin was going to be wearing flannel at some point so I knew I’d end up by the wooded area but I wanted to do a few pics at the church first. The stonework of the church in town is just beautiful. Everything about Maeystown is simply wonderful and I never get bad photos when shooting there. I had the best time getting to know Taylor and Devin more and I cannot wait til this fall when I get to have them in front of my camera again. Enjoy some of my favorites below.
