Fall Engagement Session | Pierre Menard Home/Fort Kaskaskia

Happy Easter! I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday weekend. It’s absolutely beautiful here and I’m so glad that spring/summer is finally here. The grass is greener, the skies look bluer and it’s the time of year where I feel like everyone gets a litter happier. The winter blues are behind us now and I’ve been prepping for my spring weddings.

Next weekend, Kadie and JR will be getting married and I cannot wait! I’ve known these two for years and JR has been in numerous weddings that I’ve shot over the years. They purchased their first home last year, which just happens to be catty-cornered from me. When JR proposed to Kadie I secretly hoped that I’d hear from them 😉 When you know the couple well, it’s just a different feeling taking their portraits. Every time I’ve called or emailed Kadie to ask questions and for us to talk about the engagement session/wedding, JR has been right there with her. I love that he’s been by her side through this. I know some grooms just let the brides make all the decisions (which can sometimes truly be for the best LOL), but it’s so sweet to hear his ideas and opinions.

For Kadie and JR’s engagement session, they wanted to do them in the fall. It’s such a beautiful time and since fall is beautiful where there are trees, we decided on going to the Pierre Menard Home and Fort Kaskaskia. They are locations that I’ve used quite a bit over the years but it’s always so beautiful. The trees were looking extra good that day! The most stunning colors of fall and if I remember correctly, I think I told them that they hit the fall photography lottery! There’s never really any way to tell when the fall colors will hit. Sometimes it’s early in October and sometimes it’s late and into November. Kadie even wore this stunning orange dress which pulled all the colors together beautifully.

We had the best time that day and I’m so honored that these two picked me to be their photographer. I have loved every minute so far and it’s going to get even better when I see these two tie the knot next Saturday. Here are a few of my favorites from their engagement session.
